Uplifting Gospel Songs For Funerals
It’s always a privilege for us to use our gifts to help families and friends celebrate and grieve their loved one at a funeral. More often now, people are asking us to wear colour and bring uplifting songs as they remember them with joy and thanksgiving. Funerals are always hard; we hope we make it easier. Here are songs we’ve been asked to sing recently. Do get in touch if we can help you by providing funeral singers in London, Surrey and other home counties, by emailing us.
My Life Is In Your Hands - Kirk Franklin
“You don’t have to worry, and don’t you be afraid. Joy comes in the morning, troubles they don’t last always. For there’s a friend in Jesus, who will wipe your tears away. And if your heart is broken, just lift your hands and say, ‘I know that I can make it!’
Amazing Grace
One of the most requested hymns we get, it contains joy, hope, grace, thankfulness - and in the midst of sadness. Whether sung on our own or with a congregation, it’s familiarity is also comforting.
Never Would Have Made It - Marvin Sapp
This is a perfect song to say thank you to your loved one for being there for you and helping you become the person you are.
Optimistic - Sounds of Blackness
Like so many gospel songs, this song brings joy from a place of sorrow. “When in the midst of sorrow, you can’t see up when looking down… you can win, as long as you keep your head to the sky.”
Khumbaya (Somebody’s Crying, Lord)
The harmonies make the lyrics of this song even more emotional, and comforting… it’s a new one for us but one we’ll be recommending from now on.
Oceans - Hillsong
This song is all about faith in God for the next step of your life - sometimes you have to step out on the water and wait for God to help you walk. We’ve seen this song minister to people in their grief and help lift their eyes to God for comfort.
Ain’t No Mountain High Enough - Marvin and Tammi
I can imagine this one would seem a strange choice for many people but we’ve been asked a number of times to perform it… and when you look at the lyrics, it’s not so weird after all: “Ain’t no mountain high enough… nothing to keep me, keep me from you.”
Down By The Riverside
I arranged this with the thought of releasing some of heaven in to the room. You can hear the original and full version on any digital platform here.
Amazing Grace - Oh Happy Day
We are always open to arranging new versions of songs to fit your loved one’s funeral. We arranged this for the family of a young lady who loved gospel music. For those who know Jesus, going to meet him in glory is a very happy day - we can take comfort from that.
Knocking On Heaven’s Door - Lady Smith Black Mambazo and Dolly Parton
We unfortunately didn’t video our version of this song… it was a favourite of the deceased and it fit so well. Here’s the original instead.
